MALAYSIA PLEDGES ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTION OF USD1 MILLION TO UNRWA

The Government of Malaysia has pledged an additional USD1 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This one-off pledge was announced at the UNRWA Pledging Conference at the United Nations in New York on 12 July 2024.

This brings Malaysia's total contribution to UNRWA to USD5.2 million since November 2023, in addition to Malaysia's five-year commitment of USD200,000 annually from 2021 to 2025.

Through the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP), Malaysia has also contributed to various humanitarian initiatives, including providing medical aid, food assistance, improved sanitation and water hygiene management, clean water supply and upgrading medical facilities for the Palestinians.

As of 28 June 2024, the Government of Malaysia has received contributions amounting to RM98,828,028.83. Of this amount, RM34,992,378.10 have been channelled to various civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations and international organisations such as the United Nations.

Malaysia is committed to supporting UNRWA and working closely with the United Nations and other stakeholders to continue to deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
