A meaningful new initiative - P.A.W.S. for Patriots, organized by Fort Worth Animal Care and Control - aims to honor military veterans and service members through impactful volunteer opportunities with shelter animals, fostering an environment where both veterans and pets can thrive.

Who's involved: The initiative will bring together the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control team, local veterans, service members, community leaders and animal welfare advocates. Veterans participating in this program will find renewed purpose, structure and camaraderie, making a significant impact on their lives and the lives of shelter pets. As part of the event, free pet vaccines will be available for service members and veterans, along with resource bags to take home.
Why it matters: Many veterans face significant challenges during their transition back to civilian life, including stress, anxiety and depression. The P.A.W.S. for Patriots program aims to provide therapeutic volunteer opportunities for veterans that not only enhance their emotional well-being but also improves the lives of shelter animals in need.
