UHart Welcomes Renowned Historian on “Preserving Democracy”

Open to the public, Ben-Ghiat's discussion will be the latest in the Rogow Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Series, which works to bring celebrated authors, journalists, historians, academics, and artists to the Greater Hartford area. The lecture will take place Thursday, October 24, at 5:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium.

Ben-Ghiat is a professor of History and Italian Studies at New York University. She has received Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships and serves as an advisor to Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan, a cross-ideological nonprofit group.

Ben-Ghiat's insights into the authoritarian playbook and democracy protection have made her an expert source for television, radio, podcasts, and online events around the globe. She writes for CNN, The Economist, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She is a regular contributor to CNN, MSNBC, and other media outlets.

The lecture will be one of the highlights leading up to Hawktober Weekend. The University's annual homecoming weekend will this year feature the inauguration of President Lawrence P. Ward on Saturday, October 26.
