Dayton Recovery Plan supports kinship housing

The Dayton City Commission has approved $500,000 in Dayton Recovery Plan funds to support development of kinship housing by Dayton Children's Hospital. Kinship housing provides stable and safe homes for caregivers (usually grandparents or other relatives) and children whose parents are deceased or unable to be present. Dayton Children's Hospital provides services to kinship families and has seen an increase in this population and a corresponding need for dedicated, stable housing.

The one- and two-story duplexes will be built at a two-acre site in Old North Dayton within walking distance of Dayton Children's. The homes will have three bedrooms and be ADA-accessible. Shared spaces in the community will include a communal center and garden. Dayton Children's will use the Dayton Recovery Plan funds for site preparation including earthwork, utilities, and hardscape elements. The project will also receive federal grant and tax credit assistance, among other resources. The kinship housing project will also contribute to the stability of the Old North Dayton neighborhood.

Improving neighborhoods is a Dayton Recovery Plan investment priority. The Dayton Recovery Plan is the City of Dayton's framework for transformative investment of $138 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds dedicated to recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dayton's goal for the funding is to create long-term transformational and sustainable impacts in focus areas, as well as special initiatives with impact citywide.
