MARC concludes the MARC Malaysian Bond & Sukuk Conference 2024 with key insights on APAC data centres and renewable energy

Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) concluded the MARC Malaysian Bond & Sukuk Conference 2024 (MMBS 2024) today, marking the end of two half-days of engaging discussions on the evolving landscape of Malaysia's bond and sukuk markets. The event was held virtually under the theme "Charting the Course for Malaysia's Economy" and saw the participation of approximately 800 attendees. Moody's Ratings was MARC's event partner for MMBS 2024.

During the conference, industry leaders, policymakers, and experts gathered to explore significant trends and challenges facing the market. Day one of the conference yesterday featured in-depth discussions on the current economic climate, opportunities amid economic growth and monetary easing, as well as considerations for fiscal sustainability.

The conference continued today with day two, focusing on economic sectors poised for growth. The session on "APAC Data Centres - Rapid Expansion Offers Benefits for Property and Telco Sectors" highlighted the strategic importance of data centres in the region. The session comprised presentations by Moody's Ratings representatives: Nidhi Dhruv, CFA, Vice President - Senior Credit Officer, Corporate Finance Group; Spencer Ng, Vice President - Senior Credit Officer, Public, Project and Infrastructure Finance; and Sean Williams, Analyst, Corporate Finance Group.

The conference closed with a panel discussion on "The Future of Renewable Energy: Large-Scale Solar Expansion in Malaysia", moderated by Sharidan Salleh, Senior Head, Ratings Portfolio, Oil & Gas and Power, MARC Ratings Berhad. The panellists were Gan Boon Hean, Group Chief Executive Officer of Leader Energy Group Berhad; Yeoh Phee Leong, Managing Director and Head of Debt Markets at CIMB Investment Bank Berhad; and Direshkumar Padmanathan, General Manager at Ranhill Renewables Sdn Bhd. They shared their insights on the future of renewable energy and its potential impact on Malaysia's energy landscape.

Overall, MMBS 2024 served as a platform for insightful discourse on the Malaysian bond and sukuk markets' role in supporting the growth of the country's economy.
