Vietnam's Erasmus Mundus scholarships reaches highest ever annual tally.

The European Commission has just announced the 2024 intake of students receiving the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships, which includes 54 Vietnamese recipients, the highest annual tally the country has ever seen. Vietnam also moves into Top 20 countries globally in terms of scholarships received.

On the 20th anniversary of the EU's prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) initiative - one the most generous in the world in terms of the level of financial support - the 54 Vietnamese EMJM scholars will be enrolled in a wide range of programmes for their study, including Nanoscience, Analytical Chemistry, Security and Cloud computing, Economics of globalisation and European integration, Food innovation and product design, Astrophysics and Space Science, Medical Technology and Healthcare Business, amongst others.

Within the framework of the larger Erasmus+ initiative, the EMJM awards EU-funded scholarships to Masters students from around the world, offering tuition fees, travel expenses and a living allowance. The integrated study programmes last between one and two academic years, during which the students spend time in at least two European countries, and will ultimately obtain a joint degree, a double degree, or multiple degrees. Since 2004, nearly 700 EMJM scholarships have been awarded to Vietnamese students.

Speaking at a reception hosted in Hanoi for Vietnam's new cohort of EMJM scholars, EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier shared: "Over the next two years, the new Erasmus Mundus students will embark on a journey to some of Europe's finest universities. Their Masters programmes are not just a gateway to advanced knowledge in their respective fields, but also an opportunity to gain valuable life experiences all over the continent. The knowledge, skills, and experiences that the Erasmus Mundus scholars will gain over the next two years will empower them to become brilliant leaders and innovators."
