09/05/2024

JONESBORO - The first performance in the Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State University will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the recital hall of the Fine Arts Center, located at 2412 Quapaw Way.

Taking the stage is Dr. Camille Ortiz, a celebrated soprano who is internationally recognized for her performances.
Ortiz will present a recital of Spanish music from Latin America.

"I will be singing songs by composers from Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Cuba," said Ortiz.

Dr. Ryan Sullivan, chair of the Lecture-Concert Series, said he is happy to host Ortiz as the first performer in this year's series.
"Dr. Ortiz's recital will present a range of classical solo vocal repertoire from Latin America with its rich and diverse musical history," said Sullivan, director of choral activities and vocal studies coordinator.
"This event will take place during National Hispanic Heritage Month, so we hope that people in our community who celebrate and those who want to know more will come listen to beautiful music with powerful stories."

A faculty member from A-State will accompany Ortiz at the piano. Ortiz will introduce each set of songs with information about the composers and their musical styles.

These performances are free and open to the public. More information may be found at AState.edu/Lecture-Concert or by calling 870-972-3841.
