Uniontown, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is conducting a two-week wing plow training in Latrobe, aimed at equipping operators with essential skills ahead of the upcoming winter season. The training event will run from October 28 to November 8.
This specialized training session brings together experienced operators and new operators to enhance their proficiency in using wing plows, which are essential for effective snow removal on Pennsylvania's roads. The wing plow, an innovative attachment to standard snow plows, allows for increased efficiency in clearing snow by extending the plow's reach. This dual-blade system enables operators to clear wider areas in fewer passes, significantly improving road safety and accessibility during winter storms.
"Training our operators on the proper use of wing plows is crucial as we prepare for winter weather," said PennDOT District 12 Executive Rachel Duda. "With the capabilities of wing plows, we can ensure that our roads are cleared more effectively, allowing for safer travel for all drivers."
PennDOT remains committed to ensuring the safety of Pennsylvania's roadways during the winter months. The training event is part of a larger initiative to enhance the skills of snow removal operators and improve the overall effectiveness of winter maintenance operations.
