CTL Offers Sessions and Discussion Groups on Multiple-Choice Assessments and Generative AI Topics

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), in collaboration with Instructional Design, Engagement and Support (IDEAS), has announced it will host sessions on multiple choice assessments and will reconvene its Generative AI Discussion Group meetings starting this month and throughout the fall semester.<_o3a_p>

"Multiple Choice Matters!" is a new in-depth program consisting of half-day micro-sessions addressing topics relating to multiple-choice assessments, such as exams, quizzes, and formative assessment (e.g. clicker questions).<_o3a_p>

Educators may register to attend any or all five of the following in-person sessions at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, CTL Conference Rooms 714 and 702M, on Monday, Sept. 30:<_o3a_p>

  • 11:20-11:45 a.m. - Designing Effective Multiple-Choice Questions <_o3a_p>
  • 11:45 a.m.-12:20 p.m. - Implementing Multiple-Choice Assignments<_o3a_p>
  • 12:20-1:30 p.m. - AI and Multiple-Choice Assessments, lunchtime discussion<_o3a_p>
  • 1:45-2:10 p.m. - Troubleshooting your Multiple-Choice Assessments Results in Canvas<_o3a_p>
  • 2:35-3 p.m. - Giving Students Feedback on Multiple-Choice Assessments<_o3a_p>

Additionally, the GenAI Facilitated Discussion Group enters its second year of navigating the challenges that GenAI poses for instructors and students. Its first meeting of the fall semester, "Getting Started with GenAI," will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, Room 604, on Thursday, Sept. 26. Attendees will explore the potential of generative AI tools and Microsoft's Copilot in this hands-on session, where you'll learn practical techniques for exploring and evaluating generative AI tools and output in educational settings. The discussion group will be facilitated by CTL and IDEAS team members Claire Hamilton and Dan Cannity. Those interested in attending the meeting can register here.<_o3a_p>
