Elgin Partners with Lakeshore Recycling Services

Starting January 2, 2025, the City of Elgin will begin a new partnership with Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS) as its official waste and recycling provider. This collaboration aims to enhance the quality of waste collection and recycling services offered to residents in Elgin. LRS is dedicated to delivering service that is not only timely and reliable but also emphasizes sustainability, ensuring that waste is managed in an environmentally responsible manner.

What's staying the same?

  • Collection day will stay the same
  • City of Elgin gray and blue carts will still be used
  • Electronic and Household Hazardous Waste Collection will still be provided
  • Base service will continue to be billed on your monthly utility bill

What's changing?

  • Yard waste stickers are no longer required
  • Free yard waste and organic carts are optional upon enrollment
  • On collection days, garbage, recycle and yard waste pickup time may vary
  • Limit of two bulk items each week with stickers required
  • Stickers will be required for garbage outside of waste carts
  • WM trash stickers will be honored through March 31, 2025
  • Program rates will be based on cart sizes
  • Rate information available on this site
