FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 15, 2024

Sacramento - The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that the Needles office at 1040 East Broadway St. is reopening to the public at 8 a.m. Monday, October 21.

The office closed on May 24 for renovations, which included an expanded area to serve customers, and flooring and furniture replacement.

Customers should note that the office will be open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as part of the DMV's effort to improve efficiency and to better serve the evolving needs of Californians related to its digital transformation. Regular hours at the Needles office will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Area residents are encouraged to take this opportunity to apply for a REAL ID, which requires an office visit to complete the application. Starting May 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require a valid passport or other federally approved documents, like a REAL ID driver's license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases.

To ensure the shortest office visit possible, first go to REALID.dmv.ca.gov to fill out the online application, upload necessary documents and print your confirmation code. Bring your documents and confirmation code to the DMV office to finalize your transaction - no appointment is needed. Once at a service window, it now usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete the REAL ID transaction.

Before Going to an Office - Try Online First!

The DMV has taken many steps to offer additional digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, including simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver's license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn their options to complete DMV tasks.

To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices, customers must sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov and then opt in.
