Jena Emory recently published an article for the American Bar Association highlighting the critical work of the Center on Children and the Law (the Center)/the Commission on Youth at Risk (the Commission). Merging in 2018, the Center promotes access to justice for children and families, while the Commission addresses the legal needs of disadvantaged or marginalized children, youth, and young adults impacted by legal system involvement, poverty, race, national origin or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or religion.

Emory explains the Center's three-pronged approach to achieving its goals, stating that "the Center works directly with local communities to build their legal capacity, partners with national organizations on policy reform, and serves as a centralized resource by developing training materials and organizing conferences." To further the Center's goals, the Commission provides ABA member engagement to the Center by evaluating child and youth topics.
