Faith and Local Leaders Will Condemn Political Violence In All Forms After Gunman Killed One, Injured Several Others Including Former President at Rally

New York, NY (Sunday, July 14, 2024) - Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network (NAN), along with New York City Mayor Eric Adams will convene faith leaders and others, for a Day of Prayer and Reflection at City Hall tomorrow in wake of the assassination attempt of Donald Trump. The city and faith leaders will offer support to the victims and their families, as well as condemn any attempts of political violence and implore the country to tone down the rhetoric on all sides.

"Having survived an assassination attempt 35 years ago, I understand the trauma one unknowingly goes through in the weeks, months, and years ahead," said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. "Victims of any shooting need our prayers and support in these times, as they relive this harrowing event over and over again, which is why I'm calling this broad, bipartisan group together. Several of us may not agree with Donald Trump's policies, but this is his hometown, and we all agree no one should be threatened with political violence."

On Saturday, Rev. Sharpton condemned the attack on Trump during a rally in western Pennsylvania. The attack killed one attendee and left the former president and several other injured.
