Traffic Stop in Hyde Park Leads to Recovery of Firearm and Arrest of Suspect

At about 1:30 AM, on Sunday, July 28th, 2024, Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) conducted a traffic stop at 149 Wood Ave, Hyde Park.

Officers were on patrol on Wood Ave. when they observed a vehicle in-front of them traveling over the speed limit with an expired registration. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified the operator as well as three passengers. During the traffic stop, Officers investigated and recovered a firearm inside the waistband of a 14-year-old passenger.

YVSF Detectives responded and determined that the firearm was a North American Arms .22 caliber revolver, with a defaced serial number, and loaded with five (5) live .22 caliber cartridges.

Suspect was arrested and is expected to be arraigned for the charges of Delinquent to wit Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Delinquent to wit Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Delinquent to wit Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number.
