(BOWIE, Md.) - During halftime at the Bowie State football game on Saturday, students achieving academic excellence were honored for making the Dean's List with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the spring 2024 semester.

"Today is all about celebrating excellence," said Provost Guy-Alain Amoussou." This event is an opportunity to celebrate these students by inviting their families and showcasing the value of their hard work."

This prestigious recognition of 995 students underscores Bowie State University's commitment to academic excellence. The students' achievement was announced and celebrated during halftime of the football game as President Aminta Breaux, Provost Amoussou and college deans escorted students across the field to applause from the crowd.

The day's events included a tailgate celebration before the game for Dean's List honorees and their families, allowing students to connect with their peers and share in each other's successes. Faculty members, campus administrators, and academic advisors were also present to congratulate the students and show their ongoing support.

Jermaine Bookhart, a junior Visual Communications major from Clinton, Maryland, celebrated his third time on the Dean's List.

"It feels amazing to be part of the Dean's List," Bookhart said. "Earning a 3.7 GPA boosts your self-esteem, placing you among a group of students with a 3.5 GPA or higher. It does something to you; it makes you feel good about yourself and gives you peace knowing you're putting in the work." As a junior, Bookhartsaid he is motivated to make the Dean's List even more in the future.

For many students, making the Dean's List is a testament to their determination and resilience. Students often balance coursework with other responsibilities, such as part-time jobs, family obligations, and extracurricular involvement.

The Dean's List ceremony continues to serve as an inspiration for all Bowie State students, providing motivation to strive for academic excellence. Recognizing these achievements reinforces the university's commitment to fostering a culture of academic success and celebrating students' accomplishments.
