Move-in Day at SCSU kicks off the college experience for many students

This week hundreds of new and returning Huskies arrive on campus to move into their on-campus dorm rooms. Over 1,100 students will move into Case-Hill Hall, Mitchell Hall, Shoemaker Hall, Lawrence Hall and the Stateview Apartments this week.

Nearly 150 international students arrived earlier this week, and about 500 students moved in throughout Thursday. The remaining students will continue to arrive before classes begin on Monday, Aug. 26.

"Especially for first-year students, living on campus is a formative experience and can have an impact on their transition to college and success toward graduation," said Jason Woods, Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. "Students who live on campus typically perform better academically and feel a greater sense of belonging within the campus community."

In addition, living on campus makes it easier to make friends, get involved in student organizations, attend events and take advantage of the many academic support services like tutoring, academic coaching and study sessions.

SCSU also has specific living-learning Themed Communities for students with similar interests, which includes honors and esports. These communities allow students to connect with students with similar interests to make the most of their residential and academic experience at SCSU.

"Move-in day always is exciting and brings excellent energy to campus," said Kevin McDonnell, Executive Director of Residential Life. "We have nearly 100 more students living on campus this fall than in 2023, and we are thrilled to get the school year underway."

Move-in Day starts off Huskies First Four, an orientation period that assists new entering undergraduate students in developing skills and making connections during their first days on campus and through the first semester.
