Voter education event for Jackson residents happening Friday, Aug. 30

With the 2024 election season in full swing, a community event aims to educate residents on what they need to know about voting in the upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 5 election. Ward 1 City Councilmember Arlene Robinson is collaborating with State Senator Sue Shink and Young People of Purpose (YPOP) to host a voter education event at the YPOP Community Garden on Friday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m.

Councilmember Robinson says the event will cover everything voters need to know about participating in the upcoming election, including voting rights, early voting, absentee ballots and registering to vote. There will also be an emphasis on educating younger voters.

"Participating in elections and having your voice heard is important to our democracy, so we hope to engage local young people and residents of all ages about the importance of voting," said City Councilmember Arlene Robinson.

The event is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. The YPOP Community Garden is located at 1107 Maple St.
