Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today, joining Assemblymember Al Stirpe at the Joseph F. William Memorial Park to visit the park's new splash pad and announce $3 million in capital funding for the construction of a swimming pool at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

"As much of New York spends these next few days in intense heat, we're reminded of the importance of accessible swimming facilities and the work we need to do to ensure our community members know how to swim or have access to swimming lessons." said Speaker Heastie. "Assemblymember Stirpe has been a fierce advocate for this funding and I'm honored to join him here today to see local families enjoy the water and look toward to an exciting future of expanded swimming lessons at Cicero-North Syracuse High School."

"Almost three years ago now, we announced funding to support the construction of this splash pad and it's incredible to see all that hard work pay off," said Assemblymember Stirpe. "But our work isn't done yet and I'm proud that this additional funding will get us another step closer to a pool at Cicero-North Syracuse High School as we continue to ensure our young people have access to all the facilities they need to thrive."

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stirpe visited the Joseph F. William Memorial Park splash pad, which was constructed after community members requested an alternative to Oneida Lake, where toxic algal blooms made swimming unsafe during most of the summer. Assemblymember Stirpe secured $250,000 in funding to support the capital project that opened to families earlier this summer.

Together, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stirpe also announced $3 million in funding for a new swimming pool at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Once constructed, the pool will serve the school's 1,700 students, as well as members of the community for swimming lessons, after school programs and swim clubs.
