LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southcentral Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY

PROJECT NAME: LAS 34697

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The proposed location is within Southcentral Alaska, near Tahneta Pass, southwest of Trail Lake, near the confluence between Trail Creek and East Fork Matanuska River.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Section 7, Township 20 North, Range 12 East, Seward Meridian

Section 18, Township 20 North, Range 12 East, Seward Meridian

Section 12, Township 20 North, Range 11 East, Seward Meridian

Section 13, Township 20 North, Range 11 East, Seward Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The applicant, Los Alamos National Laboratory, is requesting the year-round placement and maintenance of a radio frequency (RF) array consisting of:

  • (32) antenna (8ft x 8ft x 6ft) arranged in two concentric rings.
  • (15) 1,640ft long "spokes" to be brushed to approximately 4 feet wide.
  • Approximately 10 miles of coaxial cable.
  • (1) 25ft x 25ft base camp area consisting of:
    • (1) storage structure (4ft x 3ft x 3ft)
    • (12) solar panels (3ft x 6ft)
    • 10ft high perimeter fence

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start: September 6, 2023
End: September 5, 2026

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: September 7, 2023

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southcentral Regional Land Office, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 900C, Anchorage, AK 99501-3577 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above.
