Croatia: the “Mediterranea” exhibition arrives in Rijeka

After Zagreb, the exhibition "Mediterranea - Visions of an ancient and complex sea" has been inaugurated in Rijeka at the Kortil Gallery in the presence of Consul General Davide Bradanini and the Mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipović.

The multimedia project, curated by Viviana Panaccia and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, recounts the history, natural heritage, peoples, myths, but also the current challenges of the Mediterranean. The exhibition displays the "Mare nostrum" in all its complexity, with new satellite images, photos, videos and site-specific installations, with the aim of creating a synthesis between science and art, between the past and the present. It features images captured by the satellites of the Italian COSMO-SkyMed system and by Sentinel satellites of the European Copernicus system. It offers evocative images of the Mediterranean, from the ancient port-cities to the islands of myth, from the typical olive and wheat fields to the efforts made in the North African territories to reclaim agricultural fields from the desert, also through immersive (tactile, olfactory and audio-visual) displays.

Representing the important role played by Italy, the exhibition aims to promote Made in Italy through the enhancement and integration of cultural and artistic content with innovative and technological aspects. The initiative is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, ASI), Telespazio/e-GEOS and Fondazione Med-Or, as well as the European Space Agency (ESA). The exhibition will remain open to the public until 5 March and will then continue its international tour in Valencia and in other countries supported by the network of Italian embassies, consulates and cultural institutes.
