A man - allegedly driving a vehicle with bald tyres - has been charged with high-range drink driving and speeding almost 60km/h above the limit, after being stopped in Sydney's south west overnight.

About 9.50pm yesterday (Friday 23 August 2024), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling on Campbelltown Road, Woodbine, when they saw a sedan allegedly being driven dangerously.

Police activated their lights and sirens and stopped the driver on the Hume Motorway at Ingleburn a short time later.

The driver - a 25-year-old man - was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.

The man was arrested and taken to Eagle Vale Police Station, where he was subject to a breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.198.

The man was charged with drive with high-range PCA, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h.

He is due to face Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday 17 September 2024.

Police will allege in court the man was driving at 166km/h in a sign-posted 110km/h zone. They further allege the sedan had bald tyres, the driver was tail-gating, and was driving his headlights on high beam.

As a result, he was also issued two infringement notices for use light vehicle not comply with tyres standard, and one each for drive behind other vehicle too closely to stop safely, and use/allow use of light on/in vehicle likely/ to dazzle.

His licence was suspended on the spot for six months.
