FDNY promotes 75 fire officers

July 23, 2024

The FDNY promoted 75 fire officers during a ceremony Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island.

"Today, we celebrate your hard-earned accomplishments, which I know took endless hours of studying and reading," First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer said. "We also recognize that our promotions are not ours alone. They are achieved with the unwavering support and encouragement of our families and our friends to whom we owe a significant debt of gratitude."

"You have done exceptional things in the Department throughout your careers-bravely fighting fires, saving lives and providing outstanding medical care," Acting Chief of Department John Esposito said. "With your promotions, your work and responsibilities will increase, and the Department will ask more of you. The men and women in the field will be looking to you as an example of what to do and what not to do."

At the ceremony, 15 battalion chiefs were promoted to deputy chief, 24 fire lieutenants were promoted to captain, 33 firefighters were promoted to lieutenant, one firefighter was promoted to marine pilot and two firefighters are now marine wipers. The promoted members bring more than 1,000 years of experience to their new roles. They will be assigned to fire companies throughout New York City.
