Seawolves claim GNAC record with 108-41 blowout of Wolves

Anchorage (Dec. 7) - Senior point guard Emilia Long threatened a triple-double with 26 points, nine steals and eight assists Saturday, highlighting a record-setting 108-41 women's basketball blowout of Western Oregon at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (10-1, 2-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 20 points and seven assists from senior guard Jazzpher Evans, along with 14 points and 10 rebounds from freshman forward Ashlyn Rean, as they broke the record for victory margin in a GNAC game.

The Wolves (3-5, 1-1) got team highs of 10 points and seven rebounds from guard Bella Pedrojetti, but the visitors from Monmouth were outrebounded 53-31, outshot .462 to .292, and suffered a minus-26 (33-7) differential in turnovers.

Looking to avenge last year's home loss to the Wolves, the Seawolves snapped an early 4-4 tie with 14 straight points, getting three-pointers from Elaina Mack (11 points, 3-7 3FG) and Evans in the surge. UAA led 21-9 after the first quarter and intensified its defensive pressure in the ensuing 10 minutes for a 48-13 halftime advantage.

The 35-point halftime advantage and 23-point second-quarter margin (27-4) both marked program records against a conference opponent.

Long shot 10 of 17 from the field (2-3 3FG) and 4 of 4 on free throws as the Cal Poly Humboldt transfer tied UAA's program record for steals against an NCAA Div. II opponent. She also committed no turnovers in 25 minutes.

Rean shot 4 of 6 and dished half of her four assists in the third quarter as UAA's 33 points marked its second-most against a D-II opponent in any quarter. (NCAA women's basketball changed from halves to quarters in the 2015-16 season.)

Six Seawolves scored double figures, with Tori Hollingshead earning 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and fellow post Hedda Koehne notching 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and two blocks.

Senior forward Jaisa Gamble led UAA with a career-high 11 rebounds and snagged at least five steals for the fourth time this season.

The old record for victory margin in a conference game was a 113-51 blowout of UAA by WOU on Dec. 6, 2001 in Monmouth, Ore.

UAA gets an 11-day break before completing its non-conference schedule Dec. 19-20 in Honolulu, facing Hawaii Pacific and Daemen.
