Mid Penn Bank (the "Bank"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mid Penn Bancorp, Inc. ("Mid Penn") (Nasdaq: MPB), is proud to announce its continued partnership with the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine ("Basser Center") in Philadelphia. On November 19, Mid Penn Bank President and CEO Rory Ritrievi presented the organization with a $100,000 donation from funds raised by the 2024 Mid Penn Bank Celebrity Golf Classic, which took place in July.
"Men and women with a BRCA gene mutation face significantly higher risks for certain types of cancer. The Basser Center is leading the way in addressing this urgent issue through groundbreaking research focused on early cancer detection and prevention," Ritrievi said. "It's an honor to contribute to an organization that is making such a profound difference in the fight against cancer. We could not be more proud to support the Basser Center's mission and work."
This is the third year that the Bank has raised money for the Basser Center through its annual Celebrity Golf Classic. This year, the fundraiser brought together more than 30 celebrities and many sponsors passionate about raising awareness and advocating for increased funding for research, legislative advocacy, and high-quality screening, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer.
The Basser Center is the first comprehensive center for the research, treatment, and prevention of BRCA-related cancers. These hereditary mutations affect both women and men and can increase lifetime risks for cancers including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and melanoma. The center's unique model provides funding for collaborative research, education, and outreach programs around the world. The Basser Center has helped to accelerate progress for cancer research, including contributing to the development of FDA-approved targeted therapies for BRCA-related cancers.
