The Oil Museum of Canada hosting annual Black Gold Fest on July 13

Oil Springs, ON - The Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site is pleased to announce their annual Black Gold Fest event will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This family-friendly community event celebrates our local oil heritage with fun activities for all ages, including crafts, demonstrations, face-painting, and more. Historical blacksmithing demonstrations will run throughout the day at the Blacksmith Shop. A historical interpreter will play James Miller Williams, the man who established the first commercial oil well in North America in 1858, with shows beginning at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. The site of the original well is on the Oil Museum grounds. Visitors can round out the day listening to live music and purchasing a treat from one of the local food and drink vendors on site.

"We are thrilled to invite the community to celebrate our local oil heritage at this great summer event," said Jessica Stevenson, Marketing and Events Coordinator with Lambton County Museums and Archives. "Oil heritage is an important part of Lambton County's history, so it will be extra special to celebrate Black Gold Fest during Lambton's 175^th year. It's going to be a great experience for all ages!"
