Boronda Road Project Starting Soon

Boronda Road Project Starting Soon

Published on October 11, 2024

Phase 1 of the Boronda Rd. Congestion Relief Project is set to begin this year along Boronda between Dartmouth Way and a point between McKinnon St. and El. Dorado Dr. The Project will provide traffic relief by widening Boronda to a four lane road (two lanes in each direction) and installation of a roundabout at Boronda and McKinnon. Roundabouts are a traffic calming safety measure that reduce speeds and the likelihood of serious and fatal accidents, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Boronda Rd. Project will be completed in multiple phases. Phase 1 includes:

  • Widening of East Boronda Road from east of Dartmouth Way to east of El Dorado Dr from two lanes to four lanes
  • Constructing a multilane roundabout at McKinnon Street
  • Relocating the existing agricultural ditches along the north side of East Boronda Road north of the improvements
  • Constructing stormwater treatment facilities and bioretention facilities to mitigate runoff from the improvements
  • Constructing buffered bike lanes
  • Constructing shared‐use paths at the roundabout
  • Installing a flashing beacon system at the pedestrian crossing
  • Constructing bus pullouts, street lighting, sidewalks, ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps at all crosswalks
  • Installation of storm drain lines, sanitary sewer mainline and extensions, and pavement delineation and street signs, and landscaping

The City will provide traffic impact updates leading up to and throughout the construction of this Project.
