The Consequences of the Biden Harris Administration's Open Borders Policies: The Case of the Illegal Alien Who Brutally Stabbed Two Individuals in Missouri

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement released an interim reportregarding Jose Barrera Amaya, an illegal alien who crossed the border and escaped into the country during the Biden-Harris Administration.

According to new, nonpublic information uncovered by the Committee, DHS first encountered Jose Barrera Amaya in December 2021, along the U.S.-Mexico border. After being expelled to Mexico pursuant to Title 42, press reports indicate that Barrera Amaya reentered the country as a "gotaway" through Eagle Pass, Texas. After Barrera Amaya was arrested for drunken conduct and fighting in November 2023, DHS arrested Barrera Amaya, but the agency released him on the very same day. While free because the Biden-Harris Administration refused to detain him, and just months after his first arrest, Barerra Amaya was arrested for stabbing his neighbor and his neighbor's brother at a laundromat in March 2024. Barrera Amaya was charged "with two counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action."

The case of Barrera Amaya reveals the insufficiency of the current vetting checks being performed by DHS. While an ICE entry dated November 7, 2023, after Barrera Amaya's first arrest in the United States, indicated that he did not have a criminal record, according to news outlets, "witnesses who knew Barrera . . . told police that Barrera allegedly killed people with a machete while in Honduras."

"The Biden-Harris Administration's open-borders, no-consequence immigration policies pose a grave threat to our communities, neighbors, and the Third District. The unchecked influx of over 9 million illegal aliens, facilitated by the so-called 'Border Czar,' is fueling increased crime rates and endangering our safety. The brutal stabbing in O'Fallon in March 2024 underscores the severe dangers these policies impose on our nation. Without any meaningful efforts to secure our border, we can expect these risks to escalate, further compromising the security of our great nation," said
Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03).
