Preparations Begin for Winter Shutdown on Route 44 Embankment Stabilization Project in Watson Township, Lycoming County

11/12/2024

Montoursville, PA - Motorists are advised that preparations have started for a winter shutdown on the Route 44 embankment stabilization project in Watson Township, Lycoming County. The project is located south of Route 973 between Torbert Lane and Tombs Run.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the temporary traffic signals and barrier on Route 44 have been removed between Torbert Lane and Tombs Run in Watson Township. Traffic has return to one lane in each direction, for the winter.

Work will continue throughout November and December as the contractor prepares for the winter shut down. Motorists can expect intermittent single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours.

The 12-foot width restriction remains in effect due to a separate embankment stabilization project between Waterville and Route 973 in Cummings and Watson townships.

HRI, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $11.8 million embankment stabilization project on Route 44 between Torbert Lane and Tombs Run in Watson Township. Work includes stabilizing the existing embankment using a combination of soil nailing, wire mesh, and rock armoring. Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Traffic will be maintained using a single lane with a temporary traffic signal. Work began in the spring of 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2025.
