GW Kidney Expert Dominic Raj Honored for Scientific and Patient Care Excellence

Dominic Raj, a professor of medicine, biochemistry and biostatistics, and epidemiology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, was awarded the American Association of Kidney Patients' inaugural Medal of Excellence in Global Kidney Science and Patient-Centered Medicine.

The award recognizes professionals who are committed to improving and extending the lives of all kidney patients through advocacy, research, technology and quality-driven treatments. Raj, who is also the director of the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at GW, received the award in recognition of his efforts to transcend status quo care for patients. Raj

Under Raj's tenure, the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension became the first clinical section at GW to earn a designation of "high performing" by U.S. News and World Report. Raj was also pivotal in establishing the GW SMHS transplant program and has been the architect of efforts to expand patient care choice and access to transplant services in D.C., especially among historically underserved people and veterans.
