In tandem with its focus on the podcasts that define culture, the 2024 Signal Awards introduced a slate of new categories, such as the Athletes, Artists & Designers, Business People & Entrepreneurs, Curators and Comedians Shaping Culture. First-time winners of both the Gold and Listener's Choice Awards in these categories include: Club Shay Shay, hosted by Super Bowl Champion Shannon Sharpe [Athletes Shaping Culture], What Now? with Trevor Noah [Comedians Shaping Culture] and The Stoop: Black, Queer and Free [Curators Shaping Culture].
"The Signal Awards is an opportunity to recognize the immense influence that authentic storytelling and discussion have on our culture at large," says Jemma Rose Brown, General Manager of The Signal Awards. "With more and more podcasts becoming so integrated into listeners' lives, there is a bigger need for a discerning voice to cut through, and make sure that great work can rise to the top. The most effective way to define excellence in this hyper-diverse medium is to look at what nourishes or challenges us, and changes our perspective on the world. All of this year's winners have made an impact worth celebrating."Other Gold winners ranged from Oprah's Super Soul, The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya, Next Question with Katie Couric to Backfired: The Vaping Wars, Death, Sex & Money and Today, Explained. Listeners also chose timely shows like Dark History, Prosecuting Donald Trump, The Nightingale of Iran, The Prof G Pod with Scott Galloway, Victory Light with The Kid Mero, Who Killed JFK? and more as some of their favorites.
The Signal Awards is also honoring a set of renegades with its first-ever Special Achievement Awards, including Where Should We Begin?'s Esther Perel and Las Culturistas' Matt Rogers & Bowen Yang, for their work changing habits, sculpting new perspectives and, therefore, embodying the podcasts that define culture. Furthermore, for the second year in a row, Audible has been awarded The Signal Awards' Company of The Year, having earned the most honors across all categories. With a total of 25 wins, Audible's 2024 achievements come for breakthrough series such as Backfired: The Vaping Wars, Class of '88, George Orwell's 1984, Hot White Heist, In the Room with Peter Bergen, Your Mama's Kitchen, ...And Your Ass Will Follow and more.
All of the previously announced 2024 Finalists were eligible to win two of the industry's only distinctions that celebrate the most potent, meaningful and unprecedented audio projects being made today: The Signal Award and The Listener's Choice Award. Garnering more than 170,000 public votes in just two weeks, from nearly 75,000 fans around the world, this year's Listener's Choice Awards drew the largest voting body in The Signal Awards' three-history, reaffirming the growing prevalence that podcasts and their creators have in listeners' life patterns and daily routines. Additionally, with demarcations for Gold, Silver and Bronze, each Signal Award was selected by the Signal Awards Judging Academy, an esteemed and newly expanded cohort of the architects, instigators and trailblazers of the medium, who together reviewed thousands of hours of audio submissions from the US, Australia, Canada, China, UAE, UK, Vietnam and beyond.
Members of The Signal Awards Judging Academy include Jay Shetty (Host, On Purpose with Jay Shetty), Dan Taberski (Host, Hysterical), Leon Neyfakh (Co-Founder & President, Prologue Projects and Co-Creator, Slow Burn), Shima Oliaee (Co-Host, Dolly Parton's America and Founder, Shirazad Productions) and myriad other creators, as well as industry leaders at Acast, CNN, Condé Nast, KCRW, Lemonada Media, NPR, QCODE, Reductress, Vox Media, Stitcher, Sony Music and more.
The Signal Awards will celebrate all of its 2024 honorees during the upcoming Winners Party on November 12th, taking place at Public Records in Brooklyn, NY.
