The Initial Press Release of LNG carrier 'TAITAR NO.2'made contact with the breakwater while departing from Taichung Port

At about 0641 on October 23, 2024, a Panama-flagged LNG carrier "TAITAR NO.2" with IMO number 9403645, a gross tonnage of 118634, a length overall of 289.50 meters, a width of 49.00 meters, made contact with the north breakwater after passing the south breakwater while departing Taichung Port, The occurrence caused damage to the bow of the vessel and the breakwater. No injury or oil pollution occurred in this occurrence.

The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
