City Announces Cooling Center Locations in Anticipation of Excessive Heat Warning

PALMDALE, CA - In response to an anticipated excessive heat warning from Tuesday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 10, the City of Palmdale is opening designated cooling centers to provide relief for residents. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees during this period.

The Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will be open to people of all ages. The Library will open on the Fourth of July holiday and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Additionally, the Victory Outreach Community Resource Center located at 37419 25th St. East will serve as a cooling center on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Transportation assistance to the Victory Outreach location is available by calling 661/733-3823.

Lastly, Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 E. Ave. Q-9, will be available for seniors 55 and older during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for the Fourth of July holiday.

The City urges residents to take precautions during this extreme heat event. It is important to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid sun exposure and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors. Residents are reminded to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes during hot weather.
