Traffic Advisory: Lane Closure Adjustments on Poydras Street between S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Liberty Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 17, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will modify lane configurations in both the riverbound and lakebound directions on Poydras Street between S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Liberty Street. This lane shift is essential for continuing the removal and replacement of concrete panels with the travel lanes.

Public safety is the top priority; therefore, signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians.

Crews recently completed concrete repairs in the outer lanes and will adjust the lane configurations to start work on the inside lanes. During this phase, two lanes will remain open for vehicular traffic in both riverbound and lakebound directions. Efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, with crews aiming to impact only one travel lane in each direction at any given time. Travelers should anticipate delays and consider alternative routes.

Work along this stretch of Poydras Street began on May 20, 2024, and is expected to continue through the end of June 2024. The scope of work includes concrete panel repairs, pavement restoration, sidewalk and driveway apron repairs, installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps, and restriping high-visibility crosswalks.

Additionally, due to a 30-inch water leak on the riverbound side of Poydras Street at Lasalle Street, two lanes will need to be closed for safety. This area will remain closed until further notice as repairs are conducted in collaboration with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).

Following the completion of SWBNO's 30-inch water main repair within the intersection, DPW will restore the roadway.
