Daines Introduces Bill to Ban Handgun Rosters, Protect Montanans’ 2A Rights

  • October 15, 2024

U.S. SENATE - U.S. Senator Steve Daines introduced the "Modern Firearms Safety Act," which would prohibit states from enforcing unconstitutional handgun rosters. These rosters mandate that firearms include costly and unnecessary features like microstamping, loaded chamber indicators and magazine disconnect mechanisms. This makes it nearly impossible for manufacturers to sell new handguns.

"Our Founding Fathers were clear-the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Forcing Americans to outfit their firearms with onerous and costly features is a clear attempt to undermine the Second Amendment and law-abiding citizens' constitutional rights, and it must stop,"said Daines.

The "Modern Firearms Safety Act" has received support from the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, National Shooting Sports Foundation and National Rifle Association.

Daines joined Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Roger Marshall (R-Kansas), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) in introducing the legislation.
