Art in the Park returns Sept. 7

Outdoor event features more than 60 local artists

Art in the Park, a free outdoor art gallery and sale, will return for its third year on Sept. 7 at Petersen Barn Community Center.

The event will feature the original artwork of more than 60 local artists specializing in various mediums, including paintings (acrylic, oils and watercolor), ceramics, jewelry, photography, fused glass and wood weaving. In addition to the gallery, the event will have artist demonstrations, dance performances and food trucks.

A unique feature to the event is the Lucky Number Art Cash program. Members of the public are encouraged to complete a short survey indicating their artist selection for the People's Choice Award. Twelve "lucky numbers" will be predetermined, and when a survey including one of those predetermined numbers is returned, the person will be given $25 of Art Cash. Art Cash can only be used to purchase art from one of the Art in the Park vendors but it can be used like regular money. Artists who receive Art Cash will exchange it later for real money. In 2023, about 400 people attended the event with 82% of people feeling "very satisfied" and 18% feeling "satisfied," according to a community survey.

Art in the Park debuted in 2019 and was intended to be an annual gallery until it was temporarily canceled due to the pandemic. It returned in 2023 with resounding success

The event is free, open to the community and will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Petersen Barn Community Center and the adjoining Petersen Park at 870 Berntzen Road in Eugene.
