09/05/2024

Work will begin soon to replace the 89-year-old bridge that carries Route 426 over Brokenstraw Creek in Spring Creek Township, Warren County.

Work on the bridge, which is located on approximately 4.5 miles north of the intersection with Route 27, is expected to start September 16, 2024, weather permitting.

The project will include removal of the existing structure and replacing it with a precast concrete box culvert. Work will also include minor paving of the roadway leading up to the bridge as well as updated guiderail.

The project will require a 21.8 mile-detour, which will be posted using Route 27 and Route 6. It is expected to be in place for two weeks.

The new bridge is expected to be opened by September 30, 2024, weather permitting.

The existing bridge was built in 1935 and is rated as poor condition. Approximately 900 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Chivers Construction Company, Inc. of Fairview, PA. The contract cost is $725,456 which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
