Three “super loads” moving from Adams County to New Albany

COLUMBUS - Three more "super loads" will depart the dock site in Adams County and head to the new Intel plant being built in Licking County. The first of the three will leave Thursday morning, the second on Friday, and the third on Saturday. All three will arrive at Rickenbacker and then be delivered on Sunday.

All three loads are absorbers and are identical to the most recent loads moved. Super Load #22 and 24 measure 17'8" tall, 18' wide, and 86' long. They each weigh 129,000 pounds. Super Load #23 is carrying two absorbers which makes the load slightly larger at 17' tall, 18' wide, and 159'3" long.

Load #22 will travel from Manchester to Rickenbacker on Thursday, October 3. Load #23 will make the same trip and join Load #22 at Rickenbacker on Friday, October 4. Load #24 will follow the same route on Saturday, October 5.

Loads #22 and #24 will depart at approximately 6:30am on Sunday, October 6 and stop at Freedom Way in Pickerington. The crew will then go back to Rickenbacker and transport Load #23 through the city of Columbus all the way to the Intel site. Upon delivery, the crew will backtrack to Freedom Way and continue the route with Loads #22 and #24 to delivery.

Since these loads are smaller, the traffic impacts are expected to be minimal.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has carefully analyzed and planned the route to make sure these super loads can be accommodated. Since each load will be escorted by several Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, emergency traffic will get around the rolling roadblock with minimal delay. Working with partners like local governments and utility companies, obstructions along the route such as large overhead signs, traffic signals, and utility lines have been adjusted and moved.
