Join the Fall BioBlitz program to support native species conservation

The North Port Parks & Recreation Department, in collaboration with The Environmental Conservancy of North Port and Surrounding Areas, invites you to participate in our Fall BioBlitz: Parks for Pollinators program on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at Myakkahatchee Creek Greenway Trail. We will begin at the entrance on the W. Price Blvd. side of the trail, where parking will be available at Butler Park (6205 W Price Blvd).

BioBlitz: Parks for Pollinators is a national campaign coordinated by the National Recreation and Park Association to raise awareness and community involvement in the pollinator crisis through local Parks & Recreation departments. This exciting and educational program aims to promote the health of native species, which are crucial to our ecosystem.

Participants will use the iNaturalist app to capture photographs of plants, insects and animals, helping to identify and document the wildlife present on this day. Your contributions will support a scientific inventory of native species, enhancing our understanding and conservation efforts.

In addition to BioBlitz, there will be opportunities for volunteer activities such as invasive species removal. These efforts will improve the health of the habitat and further assist the native species in our parks. Throughout the month of September, volunteers are encouraged to continue their efforts independently by submitting their findings through the iNaturalist app or website at iNaturalist.org.
