RCMP make arrest on firearm complaint in Georgetown

August 26, 2024, Georgetown - On Saturday August 24, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. Kings District RCMP responded to a firearms complaint involving an individual with a pistol in Georgetown. Police located the man and safely arrested him after deploying an extended range impact weapon. The firearm was determined to be a replica and there was no danger to the greater public. This investigation is ongoing.

"RCMP in PEI are equipped with a 40 mm extended Range Impact Weapon that looks and sounds a lot like a firearm, except it fires a foam projectile," said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer for the PEI RCMP." It is a very useful tool for police to bring about a safe less-lethal resolution to dangerous incidents without having to resort to the use of potentially lethal force. We are pleased to have been able to resolve this situation effectively, while keeping the public, the officers and the individual safe," added Lewis.

Public safety, as well as the safety of police officers, are always the top priorities for PEI RCMP. Less lethal enforcement options give police the ability to enhance public safety while still providing officers with effective tools to help them deal with challenging situations in our communities
