Defiance County: Construction Update

U.S. 24 pavement rehabilitation: The U.S. 24 pavement rehabilitation project began in May 2024 and is expected to continue through September 2025.The project will crack and seat the concrete pavement and resurface with asphalt on U.S. 24 in both directions between U.S. 127 and Baltimore Street; and also includes slope erosion repair along the U.S. 127 eastbound entrance ramp.

PAVEMENT REPAIR TRAFFIC IMPACTS

• U.S. 24 westbound is
  • Currently restricted to the right, driving lane.
  • Expected to switch to the left, passing lane (max-width 11.5 feet) beginning Wednesday, July 17.
• U.S. 24 eastbound
  • Currently restricted to the left, passing lane (max-width 11.5 feet).
• CR 115
  • Closed to through traffic; only right turns are permitted (right-in and right-out) until Wednesday, July 17.
• U.S. 24 eastbound ramps at U.S. 127
  • Closed June 17 for approximately 30 days.
    • Entrance ramp detour: U.S. 24 west to SR 49 to U.S. 24 east
    • Exit ramp detour: U.S. 24 east to Baltimore St. to U.S. 24 west, back to U.S. 127

  • Closing on Wednesday, July 17, for approximately 30 days for pavement repairs.
    • Detour: U.S. 24 west to SR 49, to U.S. 24 east (see map).

SLOPE EROSION REPAIR TRAFFIC IMPACTS

• U.S. 127 eastbound entrance ramp to U.S. 24
  • Closing Wednesday, July 17, for approximately 90 days for slope repair. (The same ramp is currently closed for pavement repairs.)
    • Detour: U.S. 24 west to SR 49, back to U.S. 24 east (see map).
• U.S. 127 at the U.S. 24 interchange
  • The southern side of the interchange will be restricted to alternating one-way with a traffic signal and barrier wall (max-width 12 feet) beginning on July 17 for approximately 90 days.

U.S. 24 slope repair:The westbound right lane just west of the High Street/Switzer Road overpass closed on June 3 for approximately 60 days for a slope stabilization project.

U.S. 127 bridge replacement:The bridge over the Maumee River, south of the village of Sherwood, opened to traffic on May 17 following a full replacement. Work will continue off the highway; please be alert for construction activities through the area.

State Route 15/State Route 18 bridge rehabilitation:The bridge between Christy Rd. and Water St. over the Tiffin River closed on May 20 for approximately 100 days. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

ROAD CLOSURE

Detour:SR 18 to U.S. 127 to U.S. 24, back to SR 15 (see map).

State Route 18 and State Route 281 traffic signal:The Dommersville Road and E. Second Street intersection in the city of Defiance, will have traffic impacts for traffic signal work. Traffic will be maintained; flaggers may be necessary.

State Route 18 pavement repair:State Route 18 between the village of Hicksville and the village of Sherwood will be restricted to alternating one-way through Tuesday, July 2 for pavement repairs.
