City launches 2024 Snowplow Naming Contest

City of Boulder students are invited to help name 17 city snowplows for winter 2024 to 2025. Winning name submissions will be featured on city snowplows and winners will have the opportunity to take a photo with the snowplow they named.

This year, the city has added a "winged" snowplow to its fleet to help move more snow away from streets in a single pass. Name submissions featuring a "winged" theme are encouraged this year to help celebrate this addition to the city's snow response equipment.

How it works:

  • City of Boulder students from pre-K to 12th grade can submit their snowplow names (with a parent or guardian's permission) at bldr.fyi/snowplow2024by Oct. 15, 2024.
  • 17 winning snowplow names will be selected by city staff.
  • The city will notify winners via their parent, caretaker or guardian's contact information by Oct. 25, 2024.
  • The city will invite winners to attend a snowplow naming ceremony and photo opportunity on Nov. 16, 2024.

This year's snowplow naming contest builds on three successful years of running the contest. Over the past few years, winning names such as Darth Blader and Super Scooper were selected to be featured on the city's snowplows.

"We are once again thrilled to bring our annual snowplow naming contest to the community," said Business Services Supervisor Rene Lopez. "We view this contest as a way to get youth involved in their community. The creative names we see each year are always so inspiring during the cold days of winter."
