New Password Requirement for UARK Accounts

To align with standards set by the U of Ar System Office, there will be new requirements for passwords associated with UARK accounts. Currently, passwords must be 8-16 characters, including at least one uppercase and lowercase letter, number or special character. The new policy will include the same requirements; however, there will be a minimum requirement of 14 characters. Additionally, users will not be able to reuse any of their last 24 passwords.

As of now, the updated password requirements will only affect new users setting a password for the first time or current users who are resetting their password. To maintain compliance with the System Office, all users will be required to update their UARK password to meet the new minimum password standard within the next couple of months. Individuals will receive an email from the U of A's Office of Security notifying them to update their password and will be given seven days to do so after receiving the email.

When creating a password, IT Services recommends using a secure passphrase. Passphrases are multiple words containing a mixture of case sensitive letters, numbers and special characters, for example, "1Sm@llStep4M@n!"
