LDF and Partners Release Summary of the Report on NYPD’s Discipline System

Source:

On September 23, 2024, a federal court judge in the NYPD stop-and-frisk and trespass enforcement cases published a detailed report that examined the NYPD's disciplinary system for misconduct by uniformed officers. The Discipline Report reveals the many ways in which the NYPD fails to hold its officers accountable for misconduct during pedestrian stops, frisks, and searches.

This Summary of the Discipline Report was prepared by the lawyers for the New Yorkers who sued the NYPD over their discriminatory stop and trespass arrest practices, and it highlights key findings, issues, and recommendations described in more detail in the Report. The Legal Aid Society and the Legal Defense Fund represent the plaintiffs in Davis v. City of New York, which challenges the NYPD's discriminatory trespass stops and arrests of NYCHA residents and guests. Read the full Summary of the NYPD Discipline Report here.

The Court has invited public comment on the Discipline Report by December 25, 2024, so that all interested New Yorkers can share their thoughts and experiences about the NYPD's disciplinary system. All comments will be posted publicly on the NYPD Monitor's website. You can submit your comments here: https://www.nypdmonitor.org/resources-reports/?tab=Discipline+Report#categories
