PT Karyanusa Ekadaya (KED) and PT Subur Abadi Plantations (SAP) conducted socialisation on the dangers of forest and land fires for farmer groups in Marah Haloq Village on Saturday (27/8).

This activity supports the forest land fire control prevention program (Zero Fire). It embodies corporate social responsibility towards a sustainable village environment.
Slamet, Fire Assistant of PT KED, said that this activity is part of the Company's second effort to increase community awareness of the importance of forest fire prevention. The company also formed a Fire Aware Farmer Group in this activity.

"The community that we educate, we join into a Farmer Group whose purpose is to be the front guard in the event of a forest fire," he explained.

"Hopefully, with the formation of this Fire Aware Farmer Group, we will all become more concerned, more alert to the prevention and control of land fires around our environment. In the future, we can collaborate to prevent and control forest fires, both later with government officials, law enforcement officials, surrounding companies, and the surrounding community in efforts to prevent and control fires," he said.

During the event, the farmers learned about the adverse effects of forest fires, which not only damage the environment but also threaten the health and socio-economic lives of surrounding communities. They were also taught ways to prevent forest fires, including safe burning techniques and sustainable land management.

"As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are committed to educating the community, especially farmers, on the importance of protecting the environment from the dangers of forest fires," said Slamet.

Fadil, CSR Assistant of PT KED added that this activity is the first step in a series of sustainability programs that will be implemented through this fire-aware farmer group. "We hope that through this education, the community can better understand the importance of protecting forests and land from fires and play an active role in prevention," he said.

"We hope that the socialization and formation of fire awareness farmer groups in Marah Haloq and Lung Melah Villages can add new experiences related to the prevention and control of land fires. I also hope that the assistance in the form of extinguisher pumps, extinguisher hoses, and extinguisher nozzles from the TKTD team of PT KED and SAP can be used properly and optimally," he said.

This educational activity received a positive response from the local community. The farmer groups who attended felt that they benefited from the information provided. They also hope similar activities can be carried out regularly to strengthen their awareness and skills in managing land properly and safely.

"With this socialization activity and the formation of fire awareness farmer groups in Marah Haloq and Lung Melah villages, we from the East Kutai Plantation Agency hope that these farmer groups can become the front guard to prevent or provide socialization to residents regarding the dangers of burning land," said Didik Prayitno, Head of Protection of the East Kutai Plantation Agency during the activity.

With this program, PT Karyanusa Eka Daya (KED) and PT Subur Abadi Plantations (SAP) show their commitment to supporting environmental conservation efforts and improving the welfare of surrounding communities through concrete actions in forest fire prevention.(*)
