Statement From Matt Smith, Allegheny Conference Chief Growth Officer, On Expansion Of Nonstop Air Service On British Airways

STATEMENT FROM MATT SMITH, ALLEGHENY CONFERENCE CHIEF GROWTH OFFICER, ON EXPANSION OF NONSTOP AIR SERVICE ON BRITISH AIRWAYS

(PITTSBURGH - Sept. 13, 2024) - "The news that British Airways will expand its nonstop service to daily flights between Pittsburgh and London - with connections to destinations beyond from there - beginning next March is incredibly exciting and sends a strong signal about Pittsburgh as a gateway to the world," said Allegheny Conference on Community Development Chief Growth Officer Matt Smith, who also serves as vice chair of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
"Ease of connectivity - be it for business or leisure travel or for the moving of goods via air cargo - is an advantage that Pittsburgh, working in partnership with British Airways, is offering. Pittsburgh International Airport is big enough to have not only landed this nonstop service opportunity but to see it expand, and it's right sized in a way that makes both air travel and air cargo accessible, convenient and efficient. In a variety of ways, being right sized is a compelling advantage that characterizes our entire region - to the benefit of residents, employers and employees, and visitors.
"We applaud Pittsburgh International Airport and Christina Cassotis for their enduring commitment to making Pittsburgh a true gateway to the world, and we thank British Airways for its partnership with our region, which contributes in a significant way to Pittsburgh being on a global stage."
