UG Hires Lesley Strohschein as Deputy Chief Financial Officer

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) is pleased to announce the hiring of Lesley Strohschein as Deputy Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Lesley Strohschein has over 22 years of public finance experience, mostly in the higher education sector working with public institutions in Kansas, Missouri, and New Hampshire. Most recently, Strohschein spent the last five years as Controller at Kansas City, Kansas Community College and as Assistant Controller for about 18 months prior.

"Advocating for and contributing to a shared mission for effective financial practices that support public service has been at the forefront of my career," said Deputy Chief Financial Officer Lesley Strohschein. "I look forward to bringing my diverse experience and commitment to service to the Unified Government and my community."

For fifteen years, Strohschein worked in higher education financial aid at three different institutions, honing her skills in financial management, compliance, and student services. She has also overseen various financial operations including accounting, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, and grants management, in addition to the business office and student financial aid functions.

Having a well-qualified finance team that brings a wealth of experience will help the Unified Government as it works to be more accountable and financially sustainable."

Lesley graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in German and Business. In 2014, Lesley earned her MBA from the University of Saint Mary, which strengthened her ability to develop strategic financial solutions. She believes her transition to local government finance will allow her to apply her expertise to enhance fiscal responsibility and transparency within the community.

As Deputy CFO, Ms. Strohschein will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer Dr. Kneuvean, Deputy CFO Debbie Jonscher, who oversees the Unified Government's debt obligations, and County Administration to provide strategic financial direction, support financial transparency, and support the Commission's fiscal sustainability priority.
