Bridgeport Man Found Guilty of Robbing Visitor to Montville Casino in 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New London, CT) - Paul J. Narducci, State's Attorney for the New London Judicial District, announced that a Superior Court jury on August 9, 2024 found Edward L. Taylor, age 33, of Bridgeport, guilty of Robbery in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-134(a)(3), Robbery in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-135(a)(1)(A) and Larceny in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-122(a)(2).

Evidence at trial showed that on June 7, 2022, Mohegan Sun Casino Tribal Police Department received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery of a patron at the Mobile Gas Station located on Mohegan Sun Boulevard. The victim reported that while pumping gas, two males exited a vehicle and displayed a knife. A struggle ensued in which the males stole more than $55,000 in cash from the victim. In an attempt to retrieve his money, the victim held onto their vehicle as they drove off, dragging him several yards. The victim sustained minor injuries during the course of the robbery. Mohegan Sun Police, with assistance from Mohegan Sun Surveillance, were able to identify the fleeing vehicle and the suspects, including the defendant. Further evidence showed that forensic scientists found Taylor's DNA on the victim's clothing.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Assistant State's Attorney Kaila Calling, with the assistance of Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Stephen M. Carney and Inspector Robert Pickett.

Taylor will be sentenced by the Honorable Shari A. Murphy on October 22, 2024.
