Sandbags Available For St. Pete Residents During Saturday Hours

Two Sandbag Saturdays will be available in September

September 6, 2024 - As hurricane season is in full swing, the City of St. Petersburg has added extra days for residents to proactively pick up sandbags during non-emergency times. Sandbags are available on the second Saturday of the month at the year-round sandbag distribution location at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building (1744 9th Ave. N.).

In September, there will be two Saturdays with extended hours:

  • Saturday, September 7, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, September 14, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to get sandbags before a storm is imminent to stay prepared and avoid lines at the sandbag distribution sites.

These extended hours allow for equity and accessibility for more St. Pete residents to pick up sandbags and prepare for hurricane season during non-work hours. The City strongly encourages residents to proactively pick up their sandbags and other materials to stay prepared for storms.

The sandbag distribution location hours are Monday - Friday and the second Saturday of the month from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Second Saturday hours will continue until further notice. During emergency declarations for storms, sandbag distribution locations and hours will change. Updates will be shared on stpete.org/Sandbags.

Each household can receive a maximum of 10 sandbags, and residents must provide proof of St. Pete residency to pick up their sandbags. Staff will be on hand to assist seniors and others who may be unable to fill and load their own sandbags.
