Notable Trends

  • Officers arrested suspects in three of the four aggravated assaults reported this week and chargers were referred in one case. In one arrest, the suspect reached into the victim's car and pepper sprayed them. In another case, the suspect strangled and punched the victim and hit them with a chair. In the third case, the suspect caused significant damage punching the victim in the face. They also pushed another victim to the ground who was trying to intervene. In the last case, a patient assaulted a nurse.
  • A suspect was arrested for planning to kidnap a victim in Olympia. OPD Detectives partnered with our Neighborhood Officers, Thurston County Narcotics Team and Thurston County SWAT Team to locate and arrest the suspect.
  • One rape reported that is an open investigation. The victim knows the suspect.
  • Officers arrested one juvenile suspect for the robbery reported this week. Four juveniles were shoplifting and contacted by employees trying to stop the theft. Two suspects fled and one suspect punched the victim when he tried to get the stolen merchandise back. The fourth suspect was arrested for theft.
  • We had two mail thefts reported, both with mailboxes pried in the northwest area over the same weekend. Remember to check your mail daily so nothing is stolen if a suspect vandalizes your mailbox. There were also two reports of fishing poles stolen, one in the northeast and one in the southwest.

Other Items

  • Officers responded to 1,128 calls for service for the week.
  • Arts Walk starts downtown today, Friday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5 from 12 to 6 p.m. Come check out over 100 artist exhibits and events., live performances, an activity area, food village and arts market.
  • October is Walk to School Month. Enjoy the fall days by walking or rolling with your kids to school. Wear bright clothing and reflective gear to increase visibility. Look left, right, left and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street. Never trust the "wave" when there are two lanes of traffic in one direction. Make sure the second lane is stopped as well before proceeding. Happy walking!
  • In this week's photo, we had a great time celebrating Bentley's birthday on Monday with visits from community members and city employees. It was great seeing everyone who came by. Missed saying hello to Bentley? Join us for Costume with a Cop on Thursday, October 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Starbucks on 1110 College Street SE.
