M-119 washout repair, retaining wall construction in Harbor Springs to start Sept. 3

GAYLORD, Mich. -The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $667,746 to make permanent repairs to the washout area and build a retaining wall to reinforce the slope beneath M-119 near Harrison Street in Harbor Springs.

County:
Emmet

Highway:
M-119

Closest city:
Harbor Springs

Start date:
Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024

Estimated end date:
Friday, Oct. 25, 2024

Traffic restrictions:
During construction, all M-119 traffic will be detoured via State Street and West Lake Street.

Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support eight jobs.

Project background:
The shoulder of M-119 washed away following an intense rainstorm in September 2022. The washout also undermined a portion of the highway pavement and guardrail supports in the area.

While MDOT made initial temporary repairs to the roadway, southbound M-119 traffic has remained detoured on Lake Street and State Street as a precaution.
